چکیده

Background The extreme variability at the Killer cell Immunoglobulin like Receptor (KIR) expressed on the surface of natural killer cells interacts with Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) Class I appear to play a crucial role in the outcome against viral infection. The combination of HLA/KIR gene products either individually or collectively have been implicated in the control of HIV-1 in various populations. Objective of this immunogenetic case-control study is to determine the association between KIR3DS1 and HIV-1 asymptomatism.

Time to Seroconversion in HIV-Exposed Subjects Carrying Protective versus Non Protective KIR3DS1/L1 and HLA-B Genotypes

Natural killer (NK) cells play a role in the clearance of viral infections. Combinations of alleles at the polymorphic HLA-B locus and the NK cell surface killer immunoglobulin-like receptor locus KIR3DL1/S1 have been shown to influence time to AIDS in HIV-infected individuals and risk of seroconversion in HIV exposed seronegative (HESN) subjects. Here, we assessed time to seroconversion or dur...

Effects of CCR5-Delta32, CCR2-64I, and SDF-1 3'A alleles on HIV-1 disease progression: An international meta-analysis of individual-patient data.

BACKGROUND Studies relating certain chemokine and chemokine receptor gene alleles with the outcome of HIV-1 infection have yielded inconsistent results. OBJECTIVE To examine postulated associations of genetic alleles with HIV-1 disease progression. DESIGN Meta-analysis of individual-patient data. SETTING 19 prospective cohort studies and case-control studies from the United States, Europe...

Disease progression of HIV-1 infection in symptomatic and asymptomatic seroconverters in Osaka, Japan: a retrospective observational study

BACKGROUND Estimates of the interval from HIV-1 infection to disease progression may be affected by selection bias, and data concerning asymptomatic early seroconverters are limited. We examined the interval until disease progression in HIV-1 seroconverters in whom the timing of infection could be estimated within 1 year before diagnosis. METHODS Subjects included newly diagnosed patients at ...

The Role of Human Herpesvirus and Gbv-c Coinfections in the Development of Non-hodgkin’s Lymphoma in Hiv-1 Positive Individuals in the Multicenter Aids Cohort Study

Introduction: Infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can result in severe immune suppression, often allowing infections that would normally be controlled by the immune system to persist in HIV-positive individuals. Many of these infections can in turn affect the dynamics of HIV disease progression. Specifically, we hypothesize that herpesvirus infections are associated with more ...

Diversification of subtype E human immunodeficiency virus type 1 env in heterosexual seroconverters from Northern Thailand.

The C2-V3 region of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 env was determined from 15 northern Thailand seroconverters between 1993 and 1995. Similar sequences were also determined from 18 seroconverting injection drug users in Baltimore. All seroconverters from northern Thailand were infected with subtype E HIV-1 on the basis of env sequences. Intersubject viral DNA distances increased from ...
